Scripps Coastal Meander Trail
Scripps Coastal Meander Trail
Opened to the public on June 2nd 2015, the Scripps Coastal Meander Trail is part of the California Coastal Trail program which will eventually span over 1,230 miles of public coastal trails from Oregon to Mexico. Until then, walk this trail for an unobstructed view of the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier set on the beautiful La Jolla Shores.
Just north of Biological Grade, the trail entry cannot be missed. Follow this to the wooden walkway and stairs set 150 to 200 feet above the beach. Be careful walking down those stairs as your attention may be drawn to the ocean views and not where you step. It is that beautiful!
While it is tempting to just sit and enjoy the view of the ocean, your attention may be turned to a pretty sight up ahead. The grass is green and the flowers are blooming.
To your right, you will see a sign marking the "oldest known archaeological site in southern California occupied by the La Jollan I Indians 7530 +/- 190 years before the present." A few steps further, a sculpture by Donal Hord, "Spring Stirring," perfectly marks this beautiful spring day.
Enter the narrow walkway of the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics.
The trail ends here. Short and sweet!
