Scripps Coastal Meander Trail

  Scripps Coastal Meander Trail Opened to the public on June 2nd 2015, the Scripps Coastal Meander Trail is part of the California Coastal Trail program which will eventually span over 1,230 miles of public coastal trails from Oregon to Mexico. Until then, walk this trail for an unobstructed view of the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier set on the beautiful La Jolla Shores.  Just north of Biological Grade, the trail entry cannot be missed. Follow this to the wooden walkway and stairs set 150 to 200 feet above the beach. Be careful walking down those stairs as your attention may be drawn to the ocean views and not where you step. It is that beautiful! While it is tempting to just sit and enjoy the view of the ocean, your attention may be turned to a pretty sight up ahead. The grass is green and the flowers are blooming.  To your right, you will see a sign marking the "oldest known archaeological site in southern California occupied by the La Jollan I Indians 7530 +/- 1...

Secret Swing and Secret Garden Trail

  La Jolla Secret Swing and Secret Garden Trail Seeing pictures of La Jolla's Secret Swings on social media inspired me to discover them, so when my son wanted to visit the  Birch Aquarium , I knew today was going to be the day - a  two birds, one rock sort of deal. Searching for any easy-on-the-knees trails in the surrounding area revealed two  - Secret Swing Trail and Secret Garden Trail.  The location though is not-so-secret as it basically begins at the free parking lot of the Birch Aquarium. You just need to know where to look. The parking lot is one-way, shaped like a U. Right at the top of the U-Turn is where the trail begins. The (not-so) Secret Swing is right after that short climb (see below). There's usually a line for pictures and today was no different.
